When I was a child, I was once given a Mickey Mouse comic book. That was the first time I experienced drawings and text in this symbiotic form of storytelling. Comics have fascinated me ever since. Another thing that has captivated me since childhood is the aesthetics of the human anatomy. Whether it’s Hercules movies or Renaissance statues like “David,” athletic bodies in motion have something epic and poetic about them for me. When a school friend showed me his Marvel superhero comic book one day, I was completely blown away by the drawings. Comics can look like this?! That was my first encounter with superhero comics and with Spider-Man. I’ve always drawn. My entire homework notebook was filled with pictures. By age 11, I had my own comic strip, which was occasionally printed in the children’s section of the local newspaper. After school, I completely lost sight of drawing and comics. I hadn’t drawn or read comics for years. But when my two sons reached reading age, I wanted to get them excited about comics. So we started creating our own superheroes—the POWER FRIENDS. It began as an ongoing bedtime story, and little by little the idea took shape in my mind to pick up a pencil again and create my very first superhero comic.
